We believe in better. And we make it happen.
Better content. Better products. And better careers.
Working in Tech, Product or Data at Sky is about building the next and the new.
From broadband to broadcast, streaming to mobile, SkyQ to Sky Glass, we never stand still. We optimise and innovate.
We turn big ideas into the products, content and services millions of people love.
And we do it all right here at Sky.
“The Software Engineering role represents a rare opportunity to join Sky at this level to work with our brightest, shaping our approach to Content Delivery across the UK and Europe. We are looking forward to welcoming a new recruit to our dynamic team” – Tim Gebbett, Head of Group Content Delivery.
As a member of the Group Content Delivery team, within Sky Group Communications and Infrastructure, you will join our small software engineering group, writing applications, integrating with a wide range of APIs and maintaining our existing codebases. Our systems and software power a range of business mission-critical tasks involved in streaming our linear and VOD content for Now, Go, Sky Q, Sky Stream and Glass products to UK and European audiences, 24/7.
What you'll do
  • Work with a small team of like-minded Software Engineers, Design and DevOps Engineers, under Agile Scrum to deliver a range of software-based solutions in the critical path, written primarily in Python.
  • Be part of the planning, design, development, enhancement, implementation, and maintenance of new and existing codebases.
  • Provide 3/4th line support to maintain platform availability, ensuring our delivered software operates at optimal performance during peak load.
  • Uphold and maintain relevant programmatic standards and processes such as continuous integration and deployment, unit testing, source code management, change and peer review sessions.
What you'll bring
  • A degree in Computer Science or STEM/Data Engineering subject, or relevant industry experience in Software Engineering.
  • Significant experience developing in Python and using a combination of Django, Flask, Celery, gRPC, relational & NoSQL databases for production-grade services.
  • Enjoy collaborating with your colleagues, documenting and presenting your work at sprint reviews.
  • An affinity to write ordered, efficient code, with an eye for tidiness and abstracting duplication using software best practices and design patterns.
  • Ability to design and write ReSTful API’s and ReST API wrappers & experience in building or maintaining high performance software using AMQP.
  • Happy deploying applications using Docker, automated with Ansible, Shell and Python scripts with production knowledge of Jenkins and deployment pipelines for continuous integration.
